This recent roofline project in Braintree involved the full replacement of fascia, soffit and guttering to the front and rear of the property, including the side extension.
The existing roofline had reached the point where a full replacement was the right option. As with all fascia and soffit work, everything was removed first so the structure underneath could be checked properly.
Removing the Existing Roofline
All existing fascia boards, soffits and guttering were taken down, including all necessary downpipes. This exposed the rafter feet along the eaves.
If any rafter ends were found to be rotten, they were repaired to provide a solid fixing for the new installation. This step is always important in roofline work. There is no point fixing new uPVC boards over timber that has already deteriorated.

Once the structure was sound, the new system was installed.
The New Installation
The property was fitted with:
- 18mm white uPVC fascia
- 10mm white uPVC soffit
- Ventilation at the eaves
- Drip trays where required
- Bird combs where required
- Black half-round guttering
- New black downpipes
The white fascia and soffit give a clean, tidy finish, while the black half-round guttering provides a neat contrast and clear water run-off line along the roof edge.
All fascia is ventilated at the eaves. Drip trays and bird combs were fitted where necessary to support airflow and reduce the risk of debris or birds getting into the roof space.
This combination of materials is commonly used across Essex and Hertfordshire, including areas such as Chelmsford, Brentwood, Ongar, Harlow, Sawbridgeworth, Bishops Stortford, Epping, Enfield, Romford and Saffron Walden, as it provides a durable and low-maintenance roofline.

Front, Rear and Side Extension Covered
The work covered:
- The full front elevation
- The full rear elevation
- The side extension
By completing the entire roofline at once, the finish is consistent across the property. It also means the guttering system works as one complete run rather than a patchwork of old and new sections.
This type of fascia, soffit and guttering replacement is a common part of wider roofline work carried out alongside services such as cladding, flat roofing including GRP and EPDM, and uPVC windows and doors.
Installation Time and Access
The full installation was completed over 3 days.
All work was carried out using our own access equipment. Once the installation was finished, the site was left clean and tidy, and all old materials and waste were taken away.
